2025 Round Valley April Trip
By Sahishnu
1. A couple roses from the trip were that the food was good, the hike was enjoyable with all the views, and everyone got in good exercise. Also, we had a really nice fire that lasted over 7 hours.
2. A thorn from the trip was that it rained which caused some of the water to soak through the tent and into the people's stuff because some scouts didn't set up the tarp properly. Also, we were behind schedule by 2 hours, but we managed and had a lot of free time on the trip.
3. One thing I learned from hosting this trip is how to lead a trip because this was my first ever trip that I held and backpacking is one of the hardest trips to plan. Also, I learned that we should be a little more prepared because we almost ran out of fuel for the small backpacking stoves.
4. One thing that could be improved for next time is to definitely to make sure that we have all the necessary equipment because we almost didn't have trash bags for the bear bag, and some scouts didn't take proper tarps.
5. A quick rundown of what happened on the trip was that we camped at our first campsite and drove to the Round Valley recreation area. Then, we hiked 4 miles to our campsite which was a bit challenging because of the elevation and steepness of the trail. Afterwards, we enjoyed free time doing requirements, talking amongst ourselves, and made preparations by gathering firewood. Later, we used this firewood to make a rejuvenating fire that lasted over 7 hours. It felt like a proper reward for our hard work hiking to our campsite. The next day, we hiked back to the parking lot, and it was much quicker because most of the weight was gone. We almost cut our time in half. Overall, this trip was a really good experience with the nice views and scout bonding that took place
What Scouts Did Over Spring Break
By Samarth
I used scouting skill greatly during my spring break. I stayed in a house in the Poconos with my family friends and it had lots of things. It had a pool table, a mini basketball hoop, a jacuzzi, and a fireplace. Every night we would make a fire and I had to use my scouting skills to make it. I made a log cabin structure and it worked great. One day we even made s'mores using the fire. In addition to that, we went fishing a lot. We had to use our fishing knowledge from fishing merit badge to catch fish effectively (we didn't catch any though). Finally, on the last day when we were leaving we decided to hike up a mountain. We used our scouting knowledge on dangerous plants and animals to make sure we were safe. Along with that, we were very well prepared for the hike by having enough food and water for all of us, and being prepared is one of the biggest things I scouting. But still, I used scouting on this trip and I will most definitely use it on future ones even if it's just little.
